Music is what keeps us together!
A Message from Our Band President.
Hello! The Pierz Band program is thrilled to be getting into a new year with new additions and bands being started off this year! We have a new group of officers to lead the band program. Katelyn Smude is the vice president, Simon Kroll is the treasurer and Brenna Andres is the secretary. This group of seniors is excited to help out this year. We hope to see you at some of our events this upcoming year!
The year started off with playing music in the annual Oktoberfest parade. We were able to play (despite the rain) and had a great time playing music. We got to play our school song and some classic Oktoberfest pieces for everyone to enjoy. We always have a blast playing music for the community!
Not long after, school kicked in and we got to practice in the new band room! The new space has already turned out to be a great addition to the school. Each student has their own instrument locker for the instrument they play. This allows students to store their instrument and music without risk of damage or being misplaced. We also got a spacious office for our directors. We are now able to have music and books for class in new cabinets made to store them. Now all of our music is in one place and is easily accessible! The addition also included new practice rooms for students to use. The band is now able to practice in individual sections in order to improve our overall sound, without it getting overwhelmingly loud in the band room. This new addition is already proving to be beneficial. We are already hearing the difference in this new and improved room. The old band room was the equivalent to thousands of people yelling in a stadium ...you hear noise but can't tell what anyone is yelling! With the larger space, we are able to hear each individual instrument and part when the entire band is playing! It allows us to develop our band’s sound, without the hassle of adapting to the loud, small room we previously had. We are able to move around and try new things by sitting by other people. It’s amazing how much of a difference this room has made! We are thankful to be able to practice in such a beautiful space!
Along with a new band room, our program has also adopted a new schedule. Our high school program now consists of two bands: Concert and Symphonic Band. Concert Band includes the ninth graders and the majority of the tenth grade. Our Symphonic Band includes a few sophomores, juniors and seniors. With the senior high group being split up, it allows us to develop each individual musician with music picked out for the specific band they are in. Students are able to develop their skills quicker with music that will challenge them. This also means we have more space for each band to work.
I would also like to mention our band fundraisers. We will have our annual band cards and our seasonings and dips. Band cards allow you to find discounts all around the Pierz area, such as gas discounts and coupons for Pierz Foods. I would definitely recommend giving them a try! They will be ready to purchase by mid October. Along with band cards, we also plan on selling our seasonings and dips. Be on the lookout for band students to purchase your band card and seasonings!
We have a few concerts coming up for all of the bands. On November 4th we have the 9-12 concert in the PAC. The theme will be “Wondrous Earth.” On December 5th the Middle School Band/Choir concert will be in the Middle School Gym. Then on December 16th is the 9-12 Band and Choir Christmas Concert. All these concerts will start at 7 o’clock. Along with all our concerts, the pit band, which consists of a few students 9-12 grade, will be performing in the musical Cinderella. We are excited to start playing such beautiful music! The band will also continue to play at a few home football and volleyball games this fall! We hope you will join us at some of these events and hear some amazing music
